What is Online Data Back Up?
Online Data Back Up is a secure and reliable way of backing up your essential data. From the website, simply download a small software program that encrypts, compresses and then sends your data to our highly secure servers via the internet. You can then access your data at any time, from any PC with an internet connection.
Why Online Data Back Up? What's wrong with backing up using a tape streamer?
80% of all data is held on PCs, and of the 40% or so of users who regularly back up, 71% do so using tape streamers, which are unreliable, old/low-tech, require daily user intervention and storage off-site - plus, research by the Department of Trade & Industry shows that 42% of all data reinstatements from tape streamers fail. This is because tape streamers are electro-mechanical devices prone to failure, and clients rarely test the data being backed up in order to check its integrity. Online Data Back Up is a much more robust, reliable, secure and elegant solution to the issue of safeguarding data.
What data should I back up?
All your Microsoft Office files such as documents, spreadsheets, presentations, databases, notes, photographs, graphics, etc., plus accounting files (e.g. Sage) and any other data critical to your business.
What data should I NOT back up?
You will already have CDs/DVDs with original copies of any software you use, such as operating systems (Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows 2003, etc.) and application software (Microsoft Office, Sage, PhotoShop, etc.). These take up a lot of space and should not be backed up - as long as you have kept the CDs/DVDs.
